All I’ll Ever Be

When everyone and no one are at home
When everything and nothing are in play
I scatter my poor witness to the wind
And sing a song of some lost summer day

For in the fall I find myself at last
For in the cooling air I lose my sight
In loneliness I sell what I have left
And dream of all the places that I might

Have gone when I was young enough to go
Have seen when eyes were keen enough to see
When everything and nothing’s said and done
I know that this is all
I’ll ever be
