New music doesn't move us like
the old music did, and
we naturally assume that
it is the music
that's gotten worse.
But it is we who changed,
we who no longer feel things
as keenly as we did
back when every feeling
was new, and every song
ours.
The feelings inside us,
that we impute
to things outside us:
it is a common form
of socially acceptable
insanity
