Moonlight Reminiscence

We saw the moon across the bay;
The city lights and stars came on –
The world was blue and orange, in
Its fade to indigo –

And all was clear: the autumn air,
The stars appearing, one-by-one –
And we two owned the world, it seemed,
The world that we could see

In only breaths, the sudden day
Became a sort of tunneled dawn;
A quiet place amid the din,
A to among the fro –

And all we wanted / loved was there:
No hurried pace to trot or run –
As moonlight soon upon us beamed,
For love was young
And free
