My Question

I set out with my question
And was surprised to see
How many were the answers
Available to me

For each one sounded plausible,
With interest and coherence;
And all of them were loud proclaimed
By numerous adherents

But many of these answerers
Were scornful, in the main
Of all the other answers
Which they treated with disdain

And all the other answerers
Who they thought naught but fools.
And so it went the many years
I spent among the schools

To question is to wonder and
To wonder, hope to grow —
I shan’t pretend to answer when
I know
That I don’t
Know
