Instead of chasing happiness,
We should all seek to flourish;
Rather than seeking pleasure, we
Our body/soul should nourish
For running after danger is
A way of tempting fate;
A thing we only find out, often
When it’s
Far too
Late

“The self-indulgent man craves for all pleasant things, or those that are most pleasant, and is led by his appetite to choose these at the cost of everything else…” – Aristotle, “Nicomachean Ethics”

true
Can seeking to flourish be the same thing as chasing happiness? I find I need to make time to write and to run in order to be balanced in life. I flourish when I do both, and feel happy also…
If you desire things that result in flourishing, yes.
This is what I get for trying to sum up Aristotle’s ethics in ten lines.
I really love this. A good poem as a healing for the soul. 😉
Thank you, Sherrie.
” … to choose these at the cost of everything else.” 🙂
That Aristotle was on to something.
Very good poem and filled with truth. In the western mindset, we have a warped idea of happiness and the pursuit thereof.
I know I have, from time to time.
