New Girl

New Girl

There’s a new girl in the office
And she is a sight to see;
Crowds out thoughts of his career,
Family or dignity

Like a flame to oil and paper,
All’s ablaze since she was hired —
Graying men’s mid-age obsession
That they, too, might be
Desired

The Days Are Long

I know the days are long right now.
Fatigue of concentration:
It shows upon you, every day,
But that is your vocation —

To think, to solve, to work, to do,
To make it all come right:
Those keep you busy all the day
And partway through the night.

But what you do’s important, and
You’re good at it – the best –
Just know: love will be waiting when
You finally get
To rest

[Relationships are often as much about this as anything else. – Owen]

One Tired Cat

That cannot be my dang alarm.
I’m not sure where I’m at;
I just lay down, I swear I did,
I am one tired cat

Just give me four more hours,
Make that six. No – make it eight;
A little bit of napping, and
I’m sure that I’ll feel great

But ugh. The sun is coming up,
And I’m a stupid prat:
I need to go to work, but man –
I am
One tired
Cat

A Walk to Take

In life, we’ve got a walk to take

To get to where we need to be;

So slip or stumble, still we make

Our way towards our destiny:

So make your destiny your dreams.

Keep moving as you ponder, thus:

The dream you have’s worth walking to;

Life rarely brings our dreams

To us

Illustrated Chaos

The illustrated chaos that’s my daily working life
Is constant agitation, cogitation, ache and strife

I’m not glad that it’s Saturday: the day means nothing, really,
For I should be at home instead of work (at least, ideally)

I chose the life of math to turn the chaos into order:
If I could just rewind my life, I’d throw out the recorder

For clamor and disorder are the hallmarks of my day:
Just illustrated chaos,
Corporate life in
Cabaret

With Toil

With toil, much is made
We pass, but do not see;
The carpenter’s long care
Just things, to you or me —

But over down the way,
A man works at his call,
And if it weren’t for men like him,
We’d have no things
At all
