A Last Goodbye

My old boss called to tell me she was leaving,
Her happy voice soon broke down into tears;
As hope and energy turned into grieving
A life of work that spanned past twenty years

I’d seen her go from poor and young to wealthy,
And cross the globe two hundred times or more;
I know that she’ll be fine – she’s young, she’s healthy —
It isn’t like her life is really o’er —

But yet, there’s part of me that’s grieving with her;
Her voice, a dignified, but breaking, heart –
I didn’t hear some rich or pampered woman,
I heard a girl whose dreams
Were torn apart

Colleague

The junior colleague on the team,
IQ about a million:
She’s found mistakes in their accounts
That add up to a billion

She’s very nice, she’s very smart,
And they’re all at a loss –
Though she’s the junior colleague, she
Should really be
The boss

My Corporate Day

I spent about ten hours today
With my Co’s C.E.O.;
Working upon a complex task
To help the business grow

It wasn’t bad, though I do not
Too much like that position;
For though I really love my job
I truly lack ambition
