About That…

A moon on the horizon,
A hope that's whispered low,
A tune that gets stuck in your head,
A comment apropos,

A time you wish was coming,
A place you long to see --
About that hesitation:
Just let go and

Be free

once, a doorway

once,
a doorway was a world;
a cave of possibilities,
a laboratory, an arcade,
for the unseen, unknown,
could be my friend

then,
a doorway was a wall:
another place that I stomped by
aggrieved at how the world was sharp,
unfeeling, while I held the weight
of all the future threatened me --
for the unseen, unknown, was all
just smoke

now,
a doorway can be either
a pathway to new visions OR
perhaps, a chance to try the handle:
seeing if this time, this place
is more than I imagined it, and
that, just maybe,
I don't have it all

we cannot see ourselves as
others see us; trapped
within perspectives, glowing
with the shifing colors of
our moods and happenstance like
luminiscent fireflies or
maybe lights on panels on
the starship enterprise as
larger characters take up
the foreground -- even this
long-running blog is like
a series of epitaphs of strangers
who are no longer who i am, which
is to say, that what i
was is not the same as where
i am not even sure that
any of this makes

Scholars and Butterflies

We and they and they and we
Battle through the ages;
Learning, flying, burning, lying,
Stained glass glowing rages

Send the word out from the tower
We no more will take it:
Looks and skitter, books and litter,
Making fakers make it

Scholars, yes, and butterlies,
Cameras and lenses
Always tethered to a past
Forming present tenses

We and they and them and us
Mired in what we know of --
Tacit animosity
We will not

Tales End (1)

... they lived happily,
ever after, though,
further and further removed
from the circumstances and feelings
that had caused them
to come together

gradually replacing
those original emotions with
ones more tied to
present exigencies;
current limitations,
both the urgent, and the pointless,

until such time that,
unweighted by delight,
the fell into failing or maybe
failed at their falling

as the picture yellowed on
what had been

an unfaded love

mornings alive

the morning wind brought him alive
and smelled of possibilities:
adventuring and hazarding,
the rush of flying with the breeze

as all the leaves shook with delight,
and daylight broke in ecstasy --
the morning wind brought him alive,
that younger

Controlling Thoughts (2)

Could I these feelings sort and file,
There would an ordering yet be
Of all you now confuse and wreck --
An integrated world at once:
The world of science where it fits,
And this, my higher moral where
It won't
