I see in the world what I bring to the world,
And I bring to the world what it has brought me.

I therefore color new experiences in shades of my old ones,
Perhaps deciding that what has been
Must always be.

But it need not be so.

I can live forward,
Realizing that what comes
May be something wonderful
That I could not have imagined in former days.

I can and will enjoy innocence
Whenever it comes my way
So that I may in turn
Bring this gift

To others

For I have been a poor one

A not terribly competent emissary
Going back and forth
Between warring camps

And
Since I’m not built
To be a bridge between islands

I suggest you two talk TO each other
And quit trying to “win”
Because right now

You’re both losers

Sat laughing at their table
They stayed there, telling stories
For as long as they were able

I still recall just seeing them
And it might seem outrageous —
But that much friendship, love and joy
Is lastingly contagious

Henry – all the years I’ve known you
You have been my closest friend,
And through all the high school chaos
I have known I could depend

On your strange, erratic friendship
On the knife edge of your wit
To cut through the vines surrounding
School and life and – all of it

But, sometimes, I know you’re headstrong
And you think your life is set
But I’m sure you have no concept
Who you really are just yet

There’s a loving man inside you
Yes. That’s right. I said, “a man”
You think that there’s something lacking
But there’s not. I know you can

Be whoever you set out to.
Of all this I have no doubt.

Friends are sweeter than parfait
Better close than far away
Still quite good when they can call

Toronto Rain

Why do we have to go to Toronto?
I don’t know anybody there.
And look – it’s raining, always raining
I wanted Disney and it’s not fair.

Who’s Samantha? My Cousin Samantha?
This whole trip just feels like doom.
Hi. Hello. It’s nice to meet you.
Sure – I’d like to see your room.

Girl, I love that band — you’ve seen them?
Telling me they signed this shirt?
Man, I love this – what do you call it?
50 more? We’ve hit paydirt!

Sam I wonder, do you travel?
You could come down to our place.
I’ve got friends who’d love to meet you –
Let’s ask our moms just in case –

Why do we have to leave Toronto?
I was having so much fun!
I know its raining, its been raining,
Let’s not leave – we’ve just begun…
