Rusty Van

Who knows what life went on in here,
Where all this rusty van has been?
I know that it’s a junk-heap now,
But so will all things made by men
One day, someday, though we don’t know
Exactly when they will be so.

For new is just a trick of time,
And old is just a turn of fate:
A rusty van could once have been
It’s owner’s luxury estate.
One day, but when, we cannot say
Our turn will come
To rust
Away
