Fame and money animate
Much of what we humans do:
But they both contaminate
Taken in excess

If I won a billion bucks,
(And I’m sure that this is true)
I’d become someone who sucks –
I would be a mess

Like I had a heavy weight,
Though I’d never learned to lift;
There’s no way I’d keep it straight,
I would drop it, fast

So it is with lotteries,
We’re not ready for the gift:
Wealth, a dark, acute disease
That’s not meant
To last
