Fortune’s Desertion

Nothing hurts quite like losing
What we never deserved in the first place

Fortune had been my companion for years
Bringing me what I never even hoped to have

What is granted us in this life, however,
We wind up taking for granted

Until it’s gone

Exactly when Fortune left, I’m not sure
She did leave a few visible reminders
That she once walked along side me

But there is no sign
She’ll ever be back

At least

Not wearing the same clothes
