It was because of a place like this
From the slums my mom escaped;
And ’cause I hid in a place like this
My early teens were shaped
‘Twas from stories hidden in shelves like these
That my heart found it’s release:
Libraries may soon be a thing of the past
But to me, they always will be… peace
I always like the library. Here in Detroit we had the large Libraries where the books and the building felt safe and good. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.
I’ve not been in many large city libraries, having grown up in smaller cities and towns in Florida, so I can imagine the Detroit library having another dimension that those I’ve experienced. Thank you for the kind words.
