He Asked Her To Love Him

He asked her to love him,
She asked him to wait --
The minutes turned to seasons,
But one day, in a state,

She turned to tell him everything,
Retrieving love misspent --
He'd asked her, yes, to love him,
But that chance came

And went

just terrific

i'm doing just terrific thank you
thank you very much;
i'm diving into brand new things, i'm
never out of touch,

i'm full of virile wisdom, hoping
hoping but to share
with all my friends and colleagues who
might happen to be there

i'm everywhere at once, and more,
i'm now a leading light --
i'm doing just terrific thank you
thank you and

goodnight

A Living Time

A living time will blow this way, and that,
As others near us swirl with those same winds;
A whisper in the breeze - a morning chat -
A sudden rain to douse, to wash, to rinse --

Whereof the golden span we think as ours
Seems but to others as a place of waste,
We see the tallest near us as these towers
To strive to be like, in ideals encased

Like heroes, heroines, or angel-types:
The real ones see distinctions others miss
As twilight brings a world of subtle stripes
That bend and tangle, wrap around, and kiss,

And in the end, what counts is not the yield,
But how much life is fit into each field

when you don’t know it’s over

we drive on,
silence piling up
in new lands,

you, a mystery --
always there,
never quite present --

each half-phrase
sorrowed in something
off beyond,

a new betrayal
clothed in thanks
and elsewhere wishes

among the marvels

the things worth having do take work
for rest is still yet luxury;
we struggle daily in our quest
to be first in the all-to-see

among the marvels modern, slight
in frame, importance, character --
and yet we still feel puzzled when we
cannot make others we

prefer
