perfect happiness

hours spent with lines and colors,
decorating what was blank —
this is happiness, to me:
perfect happiness to me

hours spent in just creating,
loving every detail rich —
this is happiness, to me:
perfect happiness to me

not a world of domination
not a theme-united nation
not a spotlight where the others
just my freckled face would see

hours spent in careful toil
bringing color into life —
this is happiness, to me:
perfect happiness
to me

Soteira

Her heart would go where it would go
She wished, at first, it wasn’t so
But so betrayed, and so beguiled
She wandered off into the wild

Of what her feelings really were
Of things, she found, that sudden sure
Had always been inside her heart
Covert and hidden, at the start —

To finally surface and break through

To love as she was meant to do

Refined

I’ve never been a handsome man,
I am not much to see;
And often, there’ve been few who wanted
Much to do with me

I know what being poor’s about
For I have been a debtor;
And I’ve seen someone who I loved
Just leave for someone better

I know the helplessness that comes
When kids you try to raise;
When trite solutions do not work
And life is set ablaze

By choices I made carelessly.
I know all this, but yet:
I also know that life is good
And try not to forget

The clock is running, all time,
The moments we’re assigned —
And that the gold we’re given’s mixed
And has to be
Refined

Reality Calls

Reality calls out to where she’s sitting:
She’s not the girl she was, nor will she be —
But who she is, is good enough for greatness;
For making, still, her mark in history

For years, like an odometer, keep spinning:
She’s learned how she can love, and takes her time —
It might be, all these miles mean she’s winning;
And winning isn’t really
Such a crime

Go On Enjoy

She spread her arms and said to me,

I’m happy here, now that I’m free.
Go on, enjoy your own life too:
You’ll find that it is good for you

I thought about it for a while,
And walking then, there came a smile;
She was so right, I’d been a dunce:
I should
Go on enjoy my life
For once

To Flourish

Instead of chasing happiness,
We should all seek to flourish;
Rather than seeking pleasure, we
Our body/soul should nourish

For running after danger is
A way of tempting fate;
A thing we only find out, often
When it’s
Far too
Late
