the salient string

my favorite shepherd is from here,
on tuesdays she sings lullabies,
my cabinets are old and worn,
these shoes are the wrong size —

the steeples of another page
are gleaming still upon the hill,
but reticence knows where to live,
and how to just keep still.

in sets & groups & rings & fields
we seek to speak the salient string,
but you came with me all this way,
and that means

everything
