more a lamp

night needs
wake us

visions
take us

day goes down
and terrors make us

into less
than what we are —

more a lamp than star

life keeps
moving

points need
proving

we need nurture
and improving —

feeble lights
that don’t glow far

more a lamp than star

looking down
on fleeting pleasures

troubles faced
in quarter-measures

folly’s gold
among our treasures

bar by stinking bar

this, my friend, is who we are

way more lamp than star —

more a lamp

than star
