Where Some See

Another bit of poetic epilepsy —

They built this long ago when
Hopes were high for better
Tomorrows that stretched like
Ribbons across miles of
Woods and prairies unbroken by
Even train tracks, let alone
Highways that now bring people like
Me out here to see how all of this has
Been preserved and to read the
Plaques telling me that
They built this long ago

But where some see only
Signs of backwards yesterdays
Best forgotten, I see rather
That the only true and lasting
Unity in this world is the
Unity of the
Hopeful
