The Now of Hearts

I used to be excitable
I try to have composure
I used to be a homely guy
That’s something I got over

I used to lie awake each night
A feeling I detested
But now I sleep most nights with ease
And wake up when I’m rested

My life’s better than I deserve
And I don’t say that smugly;
For I can still be fiery
And somedays, I’m still ugly
