the land and the lie

when we were still the land,
the earth was ours –
and right, within our pow’rs

what waits ahead will soon be far behind;
her friend that waves as she is passing by —
and oh, how strong the tendency to lie,
and say that he will soon
be off her mind

Owen Servant is an online poet working in a style that's been described as "compulsive". In real life, he is an actuary, because being a poet wasn't unpopular enough.
