What Love Can Do

Despair’s for those
Who know what’s going to happen;
But we don’t know,
So that is a mistake —

I never could
Have seen how life’s unfolded;
How far that things could bend
And still not break.

I listened to her, wondering;
She stared out at the ocean;
And turned and smiled,
Eyes alight with feeling —

What love can do, is fit into
The gnarled cracks and spaces
We thought were too far damaged
To find healing
