Young Hearts

There’s a sadness that will come,
Days the heart is left unguarded;
Love that never quite connects,
Thoughts that end before they’re started

Wishes made on fallen stars,
Coke machines and candy bars;
Autumns full of red and gold,
How it is young hearts grow old

There’s a silence seals the air,
Days the meaning’s hard in finding;
Love that once was everything,
Now like tangled strings unwinding

Wishes made when hope still burned;
Winter’s coming, leaves have turned,
Now to fall upon the ground —
Old hearts lose
What young hearts
Found
