I see your daughter’s married now;
She looks a lot like you —
You had her back when we were young
So much that you went through
Not yet quite out of high school, and
Him really not around;
I’m glad that things worked out for you
And that some peace you found
I hope that she’s a lot like you
In more than just her look:
For you are very special —
Always have been,
In my book
I read one of your poems to D a couple moments ago. “Is that a poem?” he asked. “Yep.” “Whoa!”
Reading this one, he asked again, “Is that a poem?” When I started typing this comment, “Are you making your own poem?”
I would say you did make your own poem, the two of you.
