the politics of tribalism

she had a different view,
but it was one she’d never say:
the politics of tribalism
keeps her down that way

good words are spoken often of
our freedom, the idea;
but are viewed with suspicion
as a ill-disposed mens rea

and so she walks alone, afraid,
and frozen where she was –
not knowing there are millions
who feel just the way she does

but that’s tribal politics,
it’s not defendable:
to them, her difference in view
makes her
expendable
