In The Distance

Somewhere off in the distance
There shines a boyhood dream;
Though long ignored it hangs around
Still steadily agleam

The whiskey dims its glow a bit,
The vodka even more:
He nightly tries to block it out
Like so much from before

But he’ll find some warm body who
He’ll lay with until dawn:
He always knows the lonely ones
Whose dreams are all but gone

Why his is still alive – he does not
Know, or seem to care:
But he has not forgotten it
It is most surely there

Although far in the distance
Rarely thought directly of:
He still dreams he could be a man
A woman ought
To love
