Unwanted Attention

I’m embarrassed by attention
Though sometimes I should be psyched
Since there’s positive intention
Indicating that I’m liked

But embarrassed steadily
I am, in times both good and bad;
I admit this readily
Although I think it’s kind of sad

So attenuated to it
Am I that I wince to see
Others when they’re going through it
For then waves of empathy

Go through me in tacit feeling,
Though I know that in the end
That chagrin that sends us reeling
Makes us a more cordial friend.

One last thing: now, I have noticed
Our old lapses friends will hit:
There’s a prospect not remotest
This is a deflection bit

So we don’t bring theirs up first. I
Guess that’s why that such a thing
Would be said. If not, forgive me.
Although it’s
Embarrassing
