The might of all humanity,
Behold its moldering surface:
The frame is there, the bridge is gone –
It’s all strength, and
No purpose
The might of all humanity,
Behold its moldering surface:
The frame is there, the bridge is gone –
It’s all strength, and
No purpose
We cannot find a common ground
To share a point of view,
For I stand here, in judgment, of
The things that make you, you
And you are there, entombed within
That fort of your devising;
That there’s no common ground for us
Just isn’t that surprising
But there’s a universal truth
In all strife to be found:
Our hatreds go with us to graves
Beneath a common
Ground
The arrogance of avarice
Is known to all humanity,
And yet, it hasn’t slowed a bit,
No decrease in cupidity
As every day, we read again,
Of twisted, dark, venality:
But empty and esurient
We bumble toward mortality
Here in the houses of the dead
We see the sheer insanity
Of filling days with emptiness
And shallow dreams
And vanity
For truly base profanity
Behold now human vanity:
You set your stall
To know it all —
It’s nothing but insanity
You seek to teach sagacity
Far past your poor capacity;
And so the young
Are therefore hung
By daft obscene audacity
You should then be more circumspect
In viewing things in retrospect;
If house and hall
Should start to fall
You might have been
The architect
The things we do to own more things
Are often vain or silly:
It is much better just to rent —
It all’s just rented
Really
Her gown costs more than the waiter’s rent for a year
The car he drove here, more than the bartender’s college
The carnival of the elite is gathered here
There is no show more freakish, to my knowledge
The fat lady is thin – her wallets fat –
The bearded lady’s husband is a fake –
The strong man got that way by lifting graft –
The tamer cannot tame his wild snake
But yet they will look down upon the staff
As lesser beings much to be despised;
And yet this staff looks back, and has a laugh
Their scorn of these elite is ill-disguised
Come now, and see the majesty of man!
The world made right by his unerring hand;
The power of machinery and size,
That’s guaranteed to last until
It dies
storms will come and go,
vanity will pass away,
and all will be still
