Settling

She looked until she felt
That she had looked for long enough;
She searched for something more
But found the searching pretty rough

She settled suddenly
One summer day, a perfect June;
Then sorrowed at her leisure
For she had settled far too soon

The Aftertaste of Victory

Lonely Knight

And now, at last
I have come out
On top

You are vanquished
As a fallen knight of old
As I ride tall and proud
Over the field of victory

But

No one seems to be cheering

The smoke and haze still hang in the air
All I can hear is the wind blowing
The celebrating onlookers are gone

And I see now
Clearly
My fallen comrade
My friend

And all the king's horses
And all the king's men
Have turned sadly
And silently
Away

A life
My life
Without honor

And a victory
Has been won

To no other purpose

Than to feed

The ever-circling buzzards

Of vanity

Wasted Chances

Now every mem’ry’s like a sting
To pierce my reddened skin:
Collapse infecting everything
And failure rife within

The things I know I should have done
Lie broken on the floor;
Like toys saved for some day of fun
That’s gone
Forevermore
