The Thing I Feared

I have become the thing I feared:
A monster made of bone and gray
Who stumbles through the weary night
And into busy, bleary day

Convinced of my own rectitude.
My sanity: impaired, at best --
I wander, null but active, yet
I'm finding neither hope

Nor rest
