The clouds took over the sky last night;
They let the stars go home —
She couldn’t sleep, try as she might,
And so began to roam
By the edge of the somnolent, silent sea,
She made her patient way;
With walking dreams for her company
At the trembling start of a day
And oh how the matters
That once were so big,
Go drifting and floating
Away
For now, now she holds on
To what is most dear
At the edge of a trembling
Day
The sand her bare feet were made to one;
Her heart and the surf are in tune —
It’s better, when of all the learning’s been done
To shed the remaining cocoon
She didn’t think possible, all of that woe,
To live through the pain and the bad;
But all that she needed to move and to grow
Was the strength that she already had
And oh how the matters
That once were so big,
Go drifting and floating
Away
For now, now she holds on
To what is most dear
At the edge of a trembling
Day
