before the restive winter

before the restive winter comes
we hide away our secrets;
on river banks, in swampy fens –
all lost in autumn heedless.

we bury all our selfishness,
near caves we dare not enter —
and then, rest comfortable in lies
before the restive winter

  1. I love your thoughts, though they often hit too close to the mark and hurt. And, I often admire the poems and this time especially love the watercolor you have chosen.

    This one makes me think: well maybe those secrets will be hidden for the restive winter and maybe they will be quietly stored like witch-hazel logs beneath the water in a beavers lodge, waiting beneath the water to be mined when the ice has mantled the marsh and dulled the reflection of the winter sun, waiting for the warmth of self affirmation.
