Half The Battle

By the waterside we waited,
Though the hours seemed unmoving;
Words of honesty were shaded,
Nuanced atrophy, for proving
What we’d ever known was vapid,
Silliness, and empty prattle;
Running slow and waiting rapid,
Twice the effort, half the battle.

By the waterside, embarrassed,
Looking down for our approval,
Past the landscape lawns we’d terraced,
Full of ant and snake removal,
Slowed to indolence like cattle,
Chewing over and self-flogging;
Twice the effort, half the battle,
Thinking barely thoughts,
Then blogging
