September, 1994

I left the dinner party early, craving silence; the moment the door closed behind me, I felt free.

The world is beautiful and miraculous, just outside our concerns, and it still offers itself to us, like it did to me that night on the dock, watching a September sunset.

It is better to be in solitude and live, than to die burying yourself among the wrong people.
