The Desert Stars

The desert stars aren’t coy, or shy;
They do not hide behind their veils —
The stare down with unblinking eye
And ready stand to tell their tales

Of ancient lovers, torn by fate
Ere time had ever first begun;
And why my eyes are full of tears
That always form, but never seem
To run
