Take Flight

We fall out of the nest to find
The barnyard full and dangerous;
With all those voices, all around,
To say what they expect of us

We grow to stand upon a roost
As though we now were something great;
And crow through mindless dawn on dawn,
Quite proud within a barnyard fate

But lo, new dawn brings winds that chill,
And years go by in endless haze,
And we, the proud, must humbled be
By that which comes with end of days

A time to plant with tears of woe,
A time to see things right;
A time to scratch along the ground,
And then, to just take flight

A time to see our conscience clear,
A time to wait, and grow —
A time to let the soul take flight,
And then
To just

Let go
