A Sunset Rondel

A spiraling of evening light,
A quick declension into dark;
The murky and the recondite,
A glint from off the curving arc —

A staring, past the point of sight;
About to finally disembark —
A spiraling of evening light,
A quick declension into dark.

And though the leaf be fastened tight,
The dying day will leave its mark:
On those who guard a lost monarch —
A spiraling of evening light,
A quick declension into dark.

I wish that love was everything
We needed, and could dwell within:
We’d always have a song to sing,
We’d stick together, tape and pin

No matter what fate life might bring;
Though frames grow fat and mem’ries, thin –
I wish that love was everything
We needed, and could dwell within.

But out back, past the rusting swing,
The grass, it withers; weeds begin –
Where once burned passion clandestine
There in the mud, a golden ring:
I wish that love was everything

Winter Memories

You used to love the wintertime
When light and magic filled the air:
The sounds, the scents, all so sublime,
When love and light were everywhere

You never dreamed of warmer clime,
With body here, but thoughts out there:
You used to love the wintertime
When light and magic filled the air

The breath that filled the lungs in prime,
The brought in joys that knew no care –
You used to love the wintertime
When light and magic filled the air.

But now you hear a distant chime
And feel the weight of all you bear:
The feelings you can only mime,
And fix the days you can’t repair
When light and magic filled the air

Believe me when I tell you, friend:
This life is just confusing;
We end up at some long dead end,
Our bearings always losing –

The ways we choose our time to spend
They’re wasteful and diffusing:
Believe me when I tell you, friend:
This life is just confusing.

For every error we’d amend,
Way more we are refusing,
While new ones are our choosing –
It’s more than we can comprehend,
Believe me when I tell you friend:
This life
Is just
Confusing
