murray river basin

the earth is thirsty

the earth is thirsty so am i
out past where we all come to die
alone and without celebrant
a wastrel bard irrelevant
the half-cocked eye the shaking lip
fair captain of a foundered ship
the desert plain of fated need
to thirst to ache
to drop

to bleed

A Man and His Meds

Against my will.

For no seizures
I must daily
Take this little orange pill

For my mind
And for body
Will behave against my will

It’s a weakness
Long accepted
And due notice must I give:

My disease may
Not define me
But it dictates how I live
