a little past beyond

a little past beyond around
the turn of tide
a realization can be found
then nullified

for wanting is not having nor
is yearning blue
and sunset’s not a metaphor
for something true

but images can e’er be found
to drink or sup
a little past beyond around
just giving up

A castle stood upon the rise…

A castle stood upon the rise,
But long ago;
A glint beneath the sunny skies,
A golden glow

For childhood imagining
Had made it so:
To get it back is maddening.
The cold winds blow

Across the bleak, deserted field
Of yesterday:
Where knights who’ve lost their sword and shield
Just fade away

Wants / Wanted

She wants to hold on to the nights
And ride the days;
She wants to taste the harbor lights
And feel their rays

That spread out through the evening fog
And frame the shore,
That keep the weary from the bog,
And maybe more.

She wanted to hold on to you,
To see the dawn —
But lies were all you knew, and so
She’s moving on
