The Sailboat

I watched the sailboat on the sea
Right after she broke up with me;
Outside the place where we had slept
Together for so long

And though I didn’t know it then,
My heart had been set free:
To sail off into blue and green
Where I was meant to be

Instead of tied to shore, where I
Would lie in slumber, and deny
The secrets that I knew I’d kept –
The wind that made me strong —

And though I couldn’t know it then,
My heart – and her heart, too –
Were back to sailing on our ways
And for me, that meant
You
