If ever the world should cease to turn
And life release its pain,
I’d wander across the freezing globe
To see you once again
A ghost with a ghost of a chance, I’d be;
But through eternity
I’d search for you over the empty globe
With no less urgency
It would be no different than I am now.
For every day, I look
To see if your there on my monitor screen,
Or stuck inside some book
Or walking the mall, with your laughing friends;
That this whole thing’s been pretend —
