Banquet of the Dead

I walked into the banquet of the dead
Where all was silent, uniform and void
The hall was vast beyond my feeble ken
As each to their own meal was there employed

No sound was made, nor could I give one voice
I recognized so many as I passed
They interacted not amongst themselves
Despite unnumbered souls therein amassed

What is a meal, where there’s no fellowship?
What is a hall, where none will greet or hail?
So what is death – or was this just a vision?
Or was it life I saw there in that jail?

I asked forgiveness for the things I’d done
Then walked back into music
And to sun

dearth day

we once beneath the sky were one and all
beyond the reach of time that river flowed

this office that i sit in once a hill
when our ancestors walked instead of rode

we creatures change the world as we exist
this is not new but has been ever true

for every gain much more is ever missed
we do not see the harm in what we do

alas, though, this is more than what we say
our cheap symbolic victories aside

we once beneath the sky were granted sway
and turned abusive groom
to our fair
bride

Assumed

There’s what we know and what we just assume.
The first of these brings little strife or care;
The second? It will melt down people’s brain cells
When we find out that others really dare

To assume things quite different from what we do.
This cannot be abided, at all cost:
We strive to validate what there’s no proving
As honor, wisdom, love
Are all just
Lost

The Age of Hubris

So, before you now you see
A strange part of history
That’s the era that we know
As the Age of Hubris

People fooled by politics
Vanity and parlor tricks
Turning on their neighbors while
Neighborhoods grow fruitless

Living thoughts of hate and blame
Charging others with the same
Idolizing people who
Flatter vanity

Science seen as deity
Thought homogeneity
Persons raised up to be gods
Pure
Insanity

Review: “One Beleaguered Life”

Rarely have I had to sit
Through such shameless self-promotion
It was like a painful zit
Popped on screen, but in slow motion

Editing was flat forgotten
Plot was nowhere to be found;
It was somewhat less than rotten
In its imagery and sound

The protagonist I hated
Though the lead actress was fine;
But, alas then unabated
This rolled on sans heart or mind

So the best thing I can tell you
Is this warning to instruct:
Go nowhere near this crapola
I would say this story
Sucked

Beyond Physics

The phrase
“Science has proven”
Indicates that the author of this prompt
Is hazy on both “science”
And “proof”

Nonetheless

I already believe that present actions
Presage future consequences
In more than just the sense
That this is true in physics
From a statistical viewpoint

But if I focus on the idea
I realize
That my tendency to selfishness
Is both great and unfortunate
And that the corresponding consequences
Are liable to be, as well

Therefore

I can today do maybe one more thing
For someone from whom I can gain nothing
Not to gain some karmic something later
But so as not to experience
The other type of karma

That I know

I actually deserve

Karma Chameleon

This just in: let’s pretend that science has proven that karma is a thing. Your words and actions will influence what happens to you in the future. How (if at all) will you change your ways?
