We really loved the calendar: 
The safe, and the surprise -- 
We watched the seasons turn on pages, 
Right before our eyes. 

We learned the hues, the words, and then 
We'd gradually begin 
To name things for ourselves and fill 
Our favorite colors in. 

It hasn't changed for young ones, now -- 
Perhaps, it never will -- 
Who learn to love the calendar, 
And let their colors
