WHAT WERE the dangers that they faced,
 these many ancestors of ours
we know so little, now, about?

DID THEY brush up against death's blade
 but somehow live another day,
a tale that formed their waking minds

BUT NOW forgotten, lives at sea,
like species yet unknown or named
because of all the fathoms deep between?
