Bed Space

So many more will sleep upon this bed,

And most will live to see a better day;

But this – this was your final place to rest

Before the sleep of death took you away

You’d reconciled yourself in recent times,

Though Lord knows how, you found peace with the past —

This little space, these flimsy linen sheets,

Were all you had to comfort you at last

This bed space, thoughtlessly, will soon be cleaned;

New patients always come, it must be said —

But just us few, whenever we may pass,

Will think of your last days

Upon this

Bed

      1. It reads with deep emotion, which makes it so honest and beautiful. It made me think so much of the time I’ve spent with loved ones in hospitals, in a bitter-sweet way, rather than grieving, so thank you.

  3. My sister’s post made me smile. If I hadn’t accidentally found yesterday I’d yet again been unfollowed from your blog, her post would’ve brought me back.

    (I wish I wouldn’t keep finding these no-longer-following surprises! I wonder from whom I haven’t yet realized WP gremlins have separated me.)
