In The Mountains – 3

He wanted to touch each tree, to feel
The texture of this life he’d found;
He wanted to inventory all:
The sky above, the grass, the ground —

He wanted to memorize this place.
For passing through is hard to take
When time grows shorter with each breath,
And joys get crowded out with each new
