He Loved

He loved as few men ever love
But she did not love him;
She entertained him for awhile
Upon some sort of whim

Then broke his heart one winter day
With casual disdain;
And left him crushed into the ground
His soul, a dark moraine

But there, in heartbreak’s fertile soil
Appeared a winter rose;
Amidst the lonely wintertide
Within the gathered snows

His reborn life, so happy now
So warmly topsy-turvy;
His love not wasted anymore
On somebody
Unworthy

  1. This photo gives me mixed emotions… I love roses but since they can’t grow and stay alive in the snow that means this one will soon be gone….
