She can’t go out – she’s got nothing to wear:
At least, nothing to match the mood she’s in.
The presentation must be whole: the hair,
The clothes, the lips, the eyes, the nails, the skin
An artist does not show till art is done,
For reputation’s lost by shoddy stuff:
She must attend each detail, every one,
For “almost there” is simply not enough
You might not sympathize, but this is real.
Frustration of an almost keening kind
With naught to wear is all that she can feel
And dominates the focus of her mind.
She has a lot to choose from, that is true:
That matters not, when none of it will do

LOL, true! It’s even worse when one faces 4 seasons of choices (sometimes there are 2 seasons in one day, here) –not to even mention being 2 different sizes in a year (or a month). It is indeed a matter of “none of which will do” a lot of times, so that one is reduced to a handful of old faithfuls for casual, dress-up, and interviews for 2 different fields… good heavens, I hope guys never go through that?
We typically don’t. That’s why, on some formal occasions, all the men look the same, and any two women who do are mortified.
ROFL! True! My very attractive daughter as step-mother of the bride picked a dress she wouldn’t ordinarily wear — very understated. She didn’t want to outshine the mother of the bride. So, guess who came into the church in the same dress! Fortunately, they both laughed. I have often envied guys their seemingly easier choices.
nothing to match the mood she’s in. I like this insight. Though if I tried to match my mood with my clothes I can’t imagine what a train wreck it would look like.
I own a drawer full of black shirts, which pretty much covers the range of my moods.
The dark and stormy night kind of mood.
Nice!
Wardrobe full of black and white here. Dresses, skirts, jeans, tops. Look like a penguin most days, with the odd bit of colour to ring the changes!

True that!
