The Shores of Wonder

Along the shores of wonder,
We gathered in a throng,
And made a job of happiness –
A summer loud and long.

We talked and sang of changing worlds,
A hundred banners flew:
That we could end the madness that
Was yesterday, we knew.

Along the shores of wonder,
We drank the sun’s bright rays;
The children of tomorrow
Amid our dreams of praise —

While in a darkened, lonely room,
A soul was letting go;
But we — we now know everything,
So what’s one death

To know?
