When I Reached For Truth

When I reached for truth, I found that
I had grabbed nothing but air;
So I sought out peace in beauty,
Not too long, I saw you there —

Saw you in the fields and forests,
Saw you in the hills and streams;
Peace in beauty, calm, but biding
Ever on the edge of dreams —

Come inside, into my pleasure,
Beauty of the outworld in;
Secret hope turns public treasure,
Ecstasy of heat and skin —

When with beauty I absconded,
I was burned up in the skies:
When I reached for truth, but left it,
I was left
With naught

But lies
