Dock 12

say only what you’ve known by sight or heart,
do never be a hearsay confidante,
leave off dock 12 for our long time apart

the warden’s nothing but a commandant,
that prison is a place of florid lies,
the loving inmates know, the masters don’t

outside my door, the mourning dove still cries,
i’d like to give it comfort, but i won’t,
believe the hollowness when it you hear

the sun is up, ignoring all our woes,
the summer lives in those of rancid cheer,
we will at dock 12 see what comes or goes

our spots reserved, the pristine and the prime,
for timeless is the truth – we’re out of time
